personally i prefer Anilao to Lembeh.

in terms of marine life in general, i think it offers more variety. however, lembeh has more quantity, e.g. more of each species.

anilao has more variety in terms of type of dive sites, e.g. sandy bottom, black sand, sloping reefs, mini walls, submerge reefs.

the best time to dive anilao is between Nov - Mar, the cold water (23-26 degrees c) seem to drive the critters up to the shallows. my average dive times is 90min.

anilao pier is good for night dive, the highlight is the bobbit worm and bobtail squid.

I have not been to lembeh or anilao, and almost booked 2 weeks at both for may. They are on the top of my list with atlantis in the Phillipines. It looks like it will be nov before I can get there with all the other trips I have committed to.
Wakatobi; Great place, very $$$$$. wide angle, and macro. Try to go 1 time a year. Did I say $$$? I have heard from many people that Lembeh has more macro and Anilao has even more, so rethinking 2014.

Wakatobi??? Is it pricey??? Would love to see that too!!!! :)

Well not so many... Since I started dive 6 years ago : Egypt (more then 15 times), Cyprus, Malta, Turkey (Tekirova), Hroatia, Indonesia (Bali, Lembeh, Manado), Philippines (Bohol, Mindoro, Negros, Sebu, Anilao), Thailand (Phuket, Phi Phi), Sri Lanka (Hikkaduwa - Mirissa) ...Only daily-daiving but not safari.... and will go to Sipadan/Mabul isl. after 3 days :)

Oh yes! Anilao Pier is somewhere you shouldn't miss for a night dive when in the area. I think some people call it "Fish Market".

If you have been at Lembeh then go to Anilao to compare it yourself. It'is also a goog place but Lembeh has more relaxable atmosphere I guess :)

So, these are not minor details, in my opinion!!! :) ... When I fly 20 hours from Europe for a diving vacation I want it to be as much relaxing as possible!!! :) ... If I'm in the mood of rough waters and crowded boats we have a plenty in the Mediterranean!!! :)

I prefer Lembeh better because there are less divers in the area. Besides, Lembeh Strait is not affected by typhoons. Water is calmer.

Hi Patty! Why do you prefer Lembeh if there are more nudis in Anilao? :)

Personally I prefer Lembeh better. But I still need to go back to Anilao to shoot the nudibranchs I haven't seen yet. There are more nudibranch species in Anilao than in Lembeh.
